Creatives in Place

In 2020-21 I was the program manager of Creatives in Place listening project. Through a partnership between Tao Rising and Akonadi Foundation, the project explores the stories of 22 diverse Bay Area artists to unearth what it feels like to survive and thrive in the Bay Area during a time of great upheaval. The digital platform, creativesinplace.org gives expression to the lived experience, traditions and resilience of local creatives. The Bay Area has a powerful network of artists, activists, healers and culture-keepers that weave and uphold the region’s unique culture. Even before COVID-19, artists were steadfast. They found ways to stay true to their craft and adjust to the challenges of an ever-changing Bay Area with the support of their communities. Check out their audio / visual stories at creativesinplace.org.

Check out the #CreativesinPlace artist outdoor photo exhibit at 436 14th Street, Downtown Oakland. The Black Joy StoryWindows project features over 30 Black artists and numerous other Black-Led community-based organizations and cultural assets.
